Ho hum.

Just got my month's notice from EDS. Not that I'm too surprised – the project I was hired to work on is pretty much done, and there's apparently nothing else available for me to do within the local ABN AMRO offices, so that's that.

It does make you think, though – thinking back on the jobs I've had and their various circumstances. I am proud to be able to say that I have never been expelled from a job because I was no good at it. I have mostly left because I wanted to move on, or in two (as of today) cases because there was no more work there for me to do.

I am equally proud to be able to say that every job I have had I've got on merit – I may have got interviews through contacts, but every job I've landed I've been able to do, and do pretty well. That means there have always been mutual positives – I've always been of benefit to the people I work for, rather than a lead weight, taking up space and dragging them down, wasting my time and theirs trying to do stuff I'm completely unqualified for.

And so the hunt begins anew. New vistas are opened, new possibilities made available. One of which is the possibility of sitting at home without any work, of course, but I think that one might be easier to avoid this time around, or at least easier to cope with.

Excelsior!

If you are Dalton Bachhuber, congratulations! You have a great name.

If not, why not consider changing your name to “Dalton Bachhuber”?

1 West India Quay with Crane

I have been looking at much of what it discussed in the flickr forums, and I find it very very interesting, and cool, and I want to do it, but in order to do it properly I would need a good camera. I was pleased by this particular picture but there's inevitably a limit to what you can do off a cameraphone.

There are, however, a couple of problems with this, the first of which is that good cameras are rather more bulky than my phone and a lot less likely to be with me on any given day. The second is that I'm concerned that this may be another one of my trademark bursts of wild enthusiasm which subsequently fade away again almost as quickly.

So. What to do?

Leave it for a bit, obviously, see if I can keep taking half-decent pictures off the phone. And perhaps try and slide in a subtle attempt to get everyone I know to go and look at my pictures and tell me how great they are.

Yeah. That would do it.

The Mac Mini – with hands.

The Three Towers

I have started mucking about with the camera bit of my cameraphone, and have got myself a flickr account. Here's one I prepared earlier.

Note: flickr uses Flash.

This text was sadly missing from the heating instructions for my soup today, which is unfortunate, because that's pretty much what it did. So I spent a happy few minutes cleaning soup off the ceiling of my microwave oven.

Exploding soup. The breakfast of champions.

Cleverness.

A hush fell across the room as Bentley climbed to his feet and thrust an accusatory finger at Darcy. “You, sir, are a buffoon!” he said.
“And you, sir,” returned Darcy, “are a bounder of the third ring.”

Bentley, visibly enraged by this, withdrew from within his waistcoat a glove of immaculate whiteness, with which he proceeded to strike Darcy repeatedly about the face. “I demand satisfaction! Satisfaction, I say!” cried he.

“Very well, sir, I shall give you such at dawn tomorrow,” replied Darcy. “With what shall we duel?”
Bentley smirked. “I choose – the Banjo!”

A gasp rippled through the room as Darcy's eyes narrowed. “It is just as I suspected all along. You, sir, are no gentleman.”

First day back to work and it's about as depressing as you might expect. Nothing specifically bad – I have documentation to update but I don't think I have the version I need to perform the updates on and the person I need to speak to about it is still on holiday – but just the general back-to-work post-vacation malaise.

I respectfully submit to you, the reader, that anyone who enjoys going to work more than not going to work has something wrong with them.

On the up side, I got a Galileo Thermometer for christmas. Which is great.
